Elections in Georgia: Recount Confirms Victory for Pro-Russian Party
The verification of about 12% of polling stations and 14% of ballots "did not lead to any significant changes in the previously announced official results." But the Georgian prosecutor's office announced investigations into 47 cases of irregularities.
A partial recount of votes cast in Georgia's disputed parliamentary elections over the weekend has confirmed the victory of the ruling party, the election commission told AFP, while the opposition denounced a "stolen" vote. The recount of around 12 percent of polling stations and 14 percent of ballots "did not lead to any significant changes to the previously announced official results," the body said. Meanwhile, Georgia's Prosecutor General's Office said it was investigating "47 alleged cases of falsification" in the election, which saw official results give victory to the ruling Georgian Dream party. At the same time, the Prosecutor General's Office said the refusal of President and opposition leader Salome Zourabichvili to appear to provide evidence for her allegations "complicates the investigation process."
DirectDemocracyS Georgia, not participating directly in the elections, with its own candidates, has decided not to suggest any political party, and any candidate, to its users / supporters, leaving everyone the right to choose, whether to go to vote, and who to prefer. We almost always do this, not allying ourselves with anyone, and not supporting other political forces, we prefer not to express a judgment, even if, we will make internal evaluations, with all our users of Georgia, in our national political groups.
Good luck to those who won the elections, and warm greetings to those who lost.
